We are thrilled to share the proactive journey of Silvia Barragan, YouthZone’s dedicated Youth Advocate, who recently attended the prestigious 2nd Annual Latino Advocacy Day held in Washington, D.C. in Spetember. Advocating for a transformative 2024 Colorado Latino Policy Agenda, she joined her voice with 18 other participants in a united cry for universal healthcare that extends to all, regardless of immigration status.

Silvia bravely dove into her personal experiences, highlighting the steep financial burden of healthcare and the daunting challenges faced by families supporting loved ones navigating mental health issues.

“There was a sense of unity and shared vision at Latino Advocacy Day. We were co-hosted by Senators Michael Bennett and John Hickenlooper, and it was a great honor and opportunity to advocate for issues that deeply affect our community. Particularly, I engaged in a meaningful conversation with Senator Michael Bennett, expressing our critical need for universal healthcare regardless of immigration status. My experiences of dealing with family mental health issues and the stress of the high cost of health insurance not only gave my advocacy a personal touch but also grounded it in reality”, shared Silvia Barragan, a passionate youth advocate with YouthZone.

Silvia’s journey and her profound advocacy depict the spirit and commitment of YouthZone. Her compelling testimony kindles a mission not just for Latinos or the citizens of Colorado, but for all the families across the nation.

YouthZone continues to be proud of Silvia and all its members for their tireless efforts in promoting youth welfare and healthcare advocacy. We aim to extend our work far and wide, ensuring every family, no matter their status, can experience a healthier, supported, and brighter future.
